Current Status
Attrition is currently spelling but will be back in work late April to begin his next Campaign in the 2026 Spring.
He had a mild virus put him out of the Autumn campaign so it was decided to give him the longer spell and come back fresher and stronger and hopefully build up to another tilt at the 2026 Cox Plate which will be hosted at Flemington this year.
Please enjoy some of his most memorable high class runs below including his win in the 2023 Group 1 Toorak Handicap, his 2024 win in the Group 2 Hill Stakes and his memorable fourth in the 2025 Cox Plate the last run at Moonee Valley over the old course and a historical event the ownership were so proud to be a part of.
Last Race Overview
In reviewing the data out of the Carlyon Cup , we can see the race went very fast. There was a mad dash from the gates with majority of runners wanting to hold a position better than midfield and as Dean commented, Spencer didn't want to take part during the early proceedings which resulted in him being further back than hoped. They went 11.4lengths inside standard time to the 600m and the race rated slower than benchmark in the final proceedings, but Spencer was able to close off better than the race average, coming home 2.5lengths inside standard time.
Based on raw times, his L400 and L200 were much better than his first up run over 1400m and his overall rating improved by 3.2 lengths.
He was found to be a little stiff behind but Andrew Cust was happy with how he is moving since that run. He has since had a gallop and just seemed a little flat and not his usual self. He had a mildly elevated temperature and they are awaiting blood results, so we will assess the short-term plans when we have all information available.
As was seen from those results he did have a virus which is most likely what affected his two runs in the Autumn and he was then spelled for the Spring.
